Which do you prefer: regime change or good governance?

Consider this scenario: If President Ruto performs well, the economy thrives, youth employment increases, infrastructure improves, and healthcare facilities are adequately equipped, and then he decides to extend presidential term limits to stay in power a bit longer, would you support that? Most likely, you wouldn’t.

Now, let’s consider a different perspective: If a successful leader or president has been in power for an extended period and economic growth is evident, is there any compelling reason to vote him out? For example, was there a valid reason for overthrowing Muammar Gaddafi’s government? Compare Libya during Gaddafi’s rule to the current situation. He was a dictator, right? Let’s set that aside for now.

Looking closer to home, many Kenyans agree that Rwanda appears to be more organized than Kenya. While some believe President Paul Kagame has overstayed in power, do Rwandan citizens have any significant issues as long as the economy is thriving and everything is functioning smoothly? Is there any reason for them to call for Kagame to step down just because he has been in power for so long?

If you ask why Ugandans preferred Bobi Wine over Museveni, they probably wouldn’t cite any development achievements. After all, Bobi has no development record to point to since he hasn’t been president. Instead, they might argue that Museveni has been in power for 40 years, and that alone is reason enough for him to step down.

Back here at home. Some people praise Uhuru Kenyatta and say he was a good president. Can we all agree to change the constitution to allow retired but capable presidents like Uhuru to run again? Can we also agree to eliminate term limits for governors, allowing them to be re-elected based on their performance?

So, do we prefer regime change or good governance?
